New Children’s Book Emphasizes Safety Precautions
Full Description:
Donna M. Hahn Debuts with “Staying Safe When I Go Out”
TOWACO, N.J. – Most of us, either as children or as parents, have experienced the panic that comes from getting separated from your group in a large, public place. Although parents may diligently watch their children, locations like department stores and amusement parks offer little ones plenty of opportunity to wander off even under the most watchful eye. In her new children’s book, Staying Safe When I Go Out (published by AuthorHouse), Donna M. Hahn offers both parents and children an important safety resource, combining a whimsical story with real-life situations and safety precautions.
Young Sammy lives with his mom, dad, sister and Shadow, their cat. When the family takes a trip to a department store one day, Sammy is distracted by the biggest dinosaur toy he’s ever seen. After stopping to admire it, he looks around to find his family has disappeared, calling out for them with no response. Hahn writes:
Then I remembered what my mom and dad taught Janie and I about when we can’t find them at a store or a playground or an amusement park.
I first looked for another mom with a carriage and a baby or another child and ask them to help me find my mom or dad. I looked and looked but I couldn’t find another mom.
I took a deep breath and next, I looked for a police officer or security guard to ask for their help. A police officer or security guard wears a uniform and a badge. I couldn’t find one of them either and I started to get scared again. I stopped and stood still and thought and thought.
Find out how Sammy locates his parents in the pages of this colorfully illustrated book. At the end, Hahn has included some helpful tips for parents on teaching children phone numbers and what to do if they’re ever lost, along with pertinent websites with additional information. Staying Safe When I Go Out is both entertaining for young readers and listeners and a valuable resource for parents, teachers and caregivers.
