Full Description:
Montville, New Jersey, USA -
On a stunning Friday morning, April 25th, Arbor Day, Montville Township
Celebrated Arbor Day at the Town Hall on Changebridge Road.
A Hackle berry tree was planted by a trio of 5th graders from both the
Hilldale and Valley View Elementary Schools. The students were winners of
the Annual Arbor Day Poster Contest. This third annual event brought out
residents of all ages.
The honoree and dignitary for the 2008 Arbor Day tree planting was the
beloved former Mayor of Montville Mr. Fred Eckhardt. His family came out to
help celebrate the honor of the planting, located on a street named for his
family Eckhart Circle.
Fred addressed the group that was gathered. He said "Never forget your
friends and family. Always hold them dear. And remember to plant a tree!"
Mr. Eckhardt was in great company. There were many residents, township
employees and friends in attendance on this sunny spring day. All were happy
to be there for this very special occasion.
Attendees received a free sapling to take home with them. The white pines
could be planted at their homes. This was their little reminder of 2008
Arbor Day. It also served as a reminder of Mr.Eckhardt and his devotion to
the Township and Environment. Fred not only served for many years as Mayor,
but also serves on the Montville Environmental Commission; he served on the
Planning Board, and was instrumental in raising funds for the Montville High
School Wrestling team. His years as an educator have brought many thousands
of students to the successes they are having today. This was just one of the
ways Montville residents are saying THANK YOU to this great man!
Refreshments were served outdoors, by the Montville Women's Club
(www.mtwc.org). A display of all Arbor Day Posters were available and on
display for all to view. The parents, relatives, superintendent, principals
and teachers were on hand to see their winning students receive their
honors. Winners were Samantha Kaplan of Valley View School, Tiffany Lai and
Leslie Lin both of Hilldale School.
