Who’s Got the Face? Has ‘Got’ the Goods This Holiday Season
Montville, New Jersey (Nov. 19, 2007)—Who wrote the book? Who drew that look? Why, it was the Snelson Family!
From a family of artistic creators comes the vibrant and simple story, Who’s Got the Face?, a bright, rhyming children’s picture book penned by writer Doug Snelson, illustrated and designed by his two adult children—and now available at petalous.com, Amazon.com, and at select, retailers in time for the holidays.
Who’s Got the Face? (Petalous Publishing) takes child and adult alike through the playful day of an energetic dog named Face—in drenched color and with a clever rhyming pace. What unfolds is an irrepressible story told through the dog’s tail, eyes, ears, nose, belly, paws, and, yes, face, as Face moves through his day, as in the lines:
Who’s got the face? Who’s got the ears?
Who catches raindrops then licks them like tears?
Collaborating with his daughter, artist and fashion designer Rene? Snelson, who illustrated the book with arresting original acrylic paintings, and his son, Ryan, who designed it, Snelson captures a universal essence within Face’s day as he is showered with, and expresses, love.
“Storytelling is based on the idea that children and adults should look to be in a state of mental and physical play as much as possible,” says Doug Snelson. “Play includes two intertwined qualities—awe and concentration. Awe is seeing the beauty and wonder of life in everything. Concentration is focusing on the joy of those simple, everyday activities. It’s a concept I’ve tried to share with my own children, and I’m thrilled to have shared this creative experience them.”
Available online at petalous.com, Who’s Got the Face? is the first in a series of children’s picture books, to be followed by The Fable of a Snake Named Slim.
The book is also available on Amazon.com, at Barnes & Noble on Rt. 10 in Morris Plains, N.J., in at upscale retailer Takashimaya NYC, and at 5 independent bookstores in Northern New Jersey: Pandora's Book Peddlers (Madison); Bookends (Ridgewood); Book World (West Caldwell); The Town Book Store (Westfield) Watchung Booksellers (Montclair). The cover price is $16.95.
The author will be available to sign purchased copies of the book Dec. 1st and 2nd in New York City at the Twentieth Annual Independent & Small Press Book Fair. Snelson will be a featured reader at 11:30 am on Sunday, the second day of the event, and will be reading from the book for all in attendance. He will also be on hand to sign books from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19th at The Town Book Store, Westfield.
