Pathways' annual conference on featuring Erin Gruwell, the teacher portrayed by Hilary Swank in the 2007 Paramount Pictures film "Freedom Writers," will take place on November 17, 2007 from 9:00am-4:00pm at Montville Township High School, 100 Horseneck Rd., Montville, NJ. It is for parents, educators, professionals, and everyone who wants to be a catalyst for change. There will be a full day of presentations and classes on topics such as Become Leaders for Social Change, Auditory Perception, Future Employment for People with Disabilities, Building Effective After-School Programs and Reading Curriculum, New Technologies, and Inspiring Children with Special Needs. Speakers include Melinda Jennis, President of Pathways; Shelley Chilton, M.A., CCC-SLP, co-founder of KidTherapy; Javier Robles, J.D., Deputy Director of NJ Division of Disabilities; and Pathways' Lead Mentors. Erin's presentation, "Becoming a Catalyst for Change," and her book-signing and reception from 2:00pm-4:00pm can also be registered for separately. Registration for the full-day conference (9:00am-4:00pm) costs $65.00. Lunch can be ordered for an additional $5.00. Registration for Erin Gruwell's class section ONLY (2:00pm-4:00pm) costs $35.00. Pathways is a registered NJ Dept. of Education Professional Development Provider. Teachers earn 5.25 PD hours for full-day conference, 1.0 hours for Erin Gruwell class session only.
