Fourteen local softball teams showed up to compete in the Softball for Smiles Coed Classic Tournament held in Denville on August 18. First place went to M.T.S., coached by Pete Torres of Randolph, and second place to Pinch Runners, coached by Brian Keiper of Rockaway. The homerun-hitting contest was won by Craig Salvatore (for the men) and Debbie Schlesinger (for the women). Everyone went home a winner, though, because over $3,500 was raised to support muscle disease research. The Foye family of Pine Brook led this tournament, which was organized by Susan Priore of Denville, to raise money to support research for Centronuclear Myopathy, a rare muscle disease that affects their son and other children like him. To make a tax-deductible donation for centronuclear myopathy research at the Children's Hospital Boston, visit www.childrenshospital.org/giving. Click "Gift to Support" and then indicate "other" and enter "Foye". To mail a donation, please make your check payable to "Children's Hospital Boston" and mail to the Foye Family, 38 Buckingham Circle, Pine Brook, NJ 07058.
